L128 Blue Phantom pleco

The Blue Phantom pleco (L128) is a Hemiancistrus known from the northern Orinoco drainage in Venezuela. Several colour forms exist, differing in base colour and in the number, size and placement of the pale spots.

Its identity isn't settled: it may be a colour form of the Green Phantom, H. subviridis (L200), and even the genus is tentative. It grows large, to about 18 cm standard length or more.

Keep it at 25–30 °C and pH 6.0–7.0, with strong flow and oxygen. In a New England winter a tank in a cool room needs a reliable heater to hold that range. Newly imported fish can be delicate, which is one reason tank-bred stock is worth seeking.
