Bucephalandra, Anubias & moss
We grow emersed epiphytes: plants that grow on rock and wood rather than in the substrate. They're slow, tough and low-light, and they suit shrimp tanks perfectly.
- Bucephalandra: compact, shimmering leaves from Borneo, in several colour forms.
- Anubias: nana, petite and other small forms; nearly impossible to kill.
- Mini Christmas moss and fissidens: for carpets, walls and shrimp grazing.
Why emersed-grown
Grown out of water, the plants come with far fewer snails, algae and hitchhikers than tank-grown plants. They ship well in ordinary mail at any time of year, with no heat packs. Expect a few weeks of adjustment once they're submerged.
How to plant them
Don't bury the rhizome. Tie or glue it to rock or wood, and keep it out of the gravel.
Varieties

- Eriocaulon 'Vietnam': Dense, grass-like rosettes; one of the easier Eriocaulon.
- Rotala macrandra: Demanding red stem plant from India with rippled leaves.
- Hygrophila pinnatifida: Indian stem plant with brown-patched leaves that grips wood and stone.
- Marimo moss ball: A slow-growing ball of green alga, not a moss.
- Bucephalandra: Compact, shimmering Bornean epiphytes for low-tech and shrimp tanks.
- Anubias nana petite: The smallest common Anubias, ideal for nano tanks and hardscape gaps.
- Java fern: A hardy epiphytic fern that thrives in almost any tank.
- Mini Christmas moss: Fine, layered moss for carpets, walls and shrimp grazing.
- Fissidens moss: Tiny, slow, upright moss for detail work and nano tanks.
- Java moss: The classic easy moss for fry, shrimp and moss carpets.
