L134 Leopard Frog pleco

The Leopard Frog pleco, Peckoltia compta (L134), comes from the Rio Tapajós in Brazil and reaches about 11 cm (4.3 in). Juveniles are bright yellow with regular dark bands; in adults the yellow fades and the stripes can break up into spots.

It wants warm, well-oxygenated water with some current: about 25–30 °C (77–86 °F) and pH 6.0–7.2. In a New England winter a tank in a cool room needs a reliable heater to hold that range. It's omnivorous with a taste for meaty foods.

It's peaceful with other species but can be territorial with its own kind. It has been bred in home aquariums, with males guarding the eggs in caves.
