Hemlock reishi, Ganoderma tsugae, is the hemlock varnish shelf: a glossy, lacquered red-brown bracket that prefers conifers, especially hemlock. It's one of three varnished Ganoderma species in the Northeast, and looks very like G. lucidum, which prefers hardwoods.

It's woody and not eaten as a mushroom, and medicinal claims for it are unproven. Grown on fresh hemlock logs, inoculated within 2–4 weeks of cutting, it colonises in 12–24 months and can fruit for 3–7 years.
