Nothobranchius rachovii (bluefin killifish)

Reserve or join the waitlist

The bluefin nothobranch, Nothobranchius rachovii, comes from eastern Mozambique, between the lower Pungwe and Zambezi. Males reach about 5.5 cm.

It's an annual: in the wild adults die when their pools dry, and the eggs wait in the mud. In the fishroom the eggs rest 5–7 months at about 21–25 °C before being wetted; fry mature in about three weeks and live 6–12 months. Keep adults at 20–24 °C. See our guide to keeping tropical fish through a New England winter.
