Pseudomugil gertrudae (spotted blue-eye)
The spotted blue-eye, Pseudomugil gertrudae, comes from northern Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Aru Islands. Males are under 4 cm. Wild fish are uncommon in the hobby, and most are tank-bred.
It scatters eggs and eats them, so collect them or use dense moss. Eggs hatch in about 10 days and the fry need very fine food. Keep it at 21–28 °C. See our guide to keeping tropical fish through a New England winter.
