Blue Velvet is a solid blue Neocaridina davidi line from Taiwan. The deeper and more even the blue, the higher the grade; nearly translucent shrimp grade lowest. Females are larger and brighter than males.

Breeders disagree on its ancestry: some say it came from blue carbon rili, others from chocolate stock. Eggs hatch in about 30 days. Keep it apart from other colours, or the offspring revert to wild brown.

Keeping Blue Velvet shrimp in New England water

Like every Neocaridina, it needs a cycled tank, GH around 6–8 and a stable pH near neutral. Most Massachusetts tap and well water is soft, so check yours with the shrimp water checker or read our New England water guide. Pickup in Groton by arrangement, or shipped Monday to Wednesday.
