Chocolate shrimp are a deep, even brown Neocaridina davidi. Breeders select for depth and evenness of colour and cull shrimp with clear legs or grey-brown wild tones; females colour strongest.

Its history is disputed: some say it came from red cherry, others that several other colours came from chocolate. Keep it apart from other lines. See also Blue Dream.

Keeping Chocolate shrimp in New England water

Like every Neocaridina, it needs a cycled tank, GH around 6–8 and a stable pH near neutral. Most Massachusetts tap and well water is soft, so check yours with the shrimp water checker or read our New England water guide. Pickup in Groton by arrangement, or shipped Monday to Wednesday.
