Caridina shrimp: Crystal, Taiwan Bee & Pinto

Yellow Goldflake shrimp

Reserve or join the waitlist

The yellow goldflake shrimp, Caridina spinata, was described in 1937. It is found only in Lake Towuti on Sulawesi, where it lives on rocks 3–5 m down. It's listed as Critically Endangered.

Wild collection for the aquarium trade is growing, alongside threats from introduced flowerhorn cichlids and nickel mining. Shrimp sold as "Yellow Cheek" may be this species or a close relative, as sellers' names vary.

Like other Sulawesi shrimp it wants warm, hard, alkaline water, not the soft, acidic water of bee shrimp. See the Cardinal Sulawesi shrimp for the setup.
